What I Have Been Up To

I had problems with our computer monitor and I hadn't been able to post. We finally picked up a nice flat wide screen monitor at the thrift store. We all really like it because it's so wide. I saw a wide screen monitor at Best Buy about a month ago and was thinking how nice it would be to have a wider screen. It is much better on my old eyes!

Lately I've been thinking about how to say money on groceries so I have been trying to use coupons alot. With Tim not working regularly we really have needed to watch our spending.  We have been watching Extreme Couponing on TLC to learn how to save money. Some of the shoppers on the show seem to buy things they don't need or won't use while others shop and buy extra items to donate to charity. On TLC's Extreme Coupon page there are links to blogs of some of the shoppers who have or will be on the show.
I found blogs for two Christian moms who extreme coupon and they buy enough items to donate to their food banks, shelters etc.

So I've found several coupon sites and I try to find the best deals. Today was my first day at trying to use as many coupons as possible for the items we buy all the time. We still ended up spending just over $200 but it was at $280 before the coupons so I guess it's better than nothing.
I just need to learn more skills like the shoppers on the show. If you have never seen it before you must watch it on TLC on Wednesday nights from 9-10(two half hour episodes). I thought these shoppers were crazy because some if not all keep their coupons in a binder with pockets. When I saw this I thought that was over the top but DH and I were talking about it and it makes so much more sense. No more hunting around for the coupons you cut out on Sunday.
I bought a photo album with pockets from the thrift store a couple of days ago, attached post it dividers (I got these free from a friend!) and added my coupons.

I really want to be a good steward of the money that God has blessed us with. This is the reason why I want to save at the grocery store. I also want to be able to bless others with the money we can save if we shop wisely.

My husband was just here and he reminded me of the free money we got from CVS today. We earned $5 in bonus bucks for buying two bottles of Advil  at $7.98 each for which I had a $4 off two, another $5 for two packs of Therma Care which I had a $1 off coupon, and another $5 because we bought two bottles of Irish Spring deodorant plus they added another $5 for a total of $20 in bonus bucks and they can all be used at the same time. I was looking at my receipt and I guess they call them ExtraCare Bucks now instead of bonus bucks but thy are definitely a bonus for us :-)
So I guess I just need to learn how to save like I did at CVS.

Is it Worth it??

Once in awhile, well actually yesterday I was wondering if trying to raise godly Christian daughters is worth the fights and hassles that a Christian parent has to go through. Perhaps if we had raised them differently, listen to the Lord more and less to what other so called Christians do.

I'm having a battle with one of my teenage daughter over an issue and right now I'm feeling like the bad guy in the family. All I want is for all my children to be totally on fire for Jesus and not listen to the world's twisted ideas.

I'm in Yahoogroups and there are mothers who share about their heartbreak over their wayward children and I fear that will happen with mine.
How does one raise their children and not have any issues with them especially during their teen years?

O Worship the King

This is a wonderful hymn that we sang at church today. We don't always sing hymns and so I was happy when we sang this today.
http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/o/w/t/owtking.htm

O Worship the King

O worship the King, all glorious above,

O gratefully sing His power and His love;

Our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days,

Pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise.

O tell of His might, O sing of His grace,

Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space,

His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,

And dark is His path on the wings of the storm.

The earth with its store of wonders untold,

Almighty, Thy power hath founded of old;

Established it fast by a changeless decree,

And round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea.

Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?

It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;

It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,

And sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,

In Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail;

Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,

Our maker, defender, redeemer, and friend.

O measureless might! Ineffable love!

While angels delight to worship Thee above,

The humbler creation, though feeble their lays,

With true adoration shall all sing Thy praise.

Hymn-Mother's Prayers Have Followed Me

I know this is late but I was busy today. I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day. This is a wonderful hymn I found and I dedicate it to mothers who have prayed for their children into adulthood.

http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/m/o/t/mothersp.htm

I grieved my Lord from day to day

I scorned His love so full and free,

And though I wandered far away,

My mother’s prayers have followed me.

Refrain

I’m coming home, I’m coming home,

To live my wasted life anew,

For mother’s prayers have followed me,

Have followed me, the whole world thro’.

O’er desert wild, o’er mountain high

A wanderer I chose to be,

A wretched soul condemned to die,

Still mother’s prayers have followed me.

Refrain

He turned my darkness into light,

This blessèd Christ of Calvary,

I’ll praise His name both day and night,

That mother’s prayers have followed me.

Refrain

So Sad Indeed!!

As a Christian I find it rather sad when someone dies and if they weren't following Christ and living a godly life they will be doomed in eternity. Even if a person is evil and dispicable, God loves that person and wants him or her to repent of their sin.

Hymn of the Week-Joyful, Joyful

We sing this at church sometimes and it is so pretty!
http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/j/o/y/joyful.htm

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love;

Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, opening to the sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away;

Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee, earth and heaven reflect Thy rays,

Stars and angels sing around Thee, center of unbroken praise.

Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea,

Singing bird and flowing fountain call us to rejoice in Thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blessed,

Wellspring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest!

Thou our Father, Christ our brother, all who live in love are Thine;

Teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals, join the happy chorus, which the morning stars began;

Father love is reigning o’er us, brother love binds man to man.

Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife,

Joyful music leads us sunward in the triumph song of life.
