The Simple Woman's Daybook

                                   For Today-May 23, 2018

Outside my window.... is very windy. I may need to resort to lightweight leggings under my dress to keep from recreating the Marilyn Monroe dress scene!

I am thinking...about accompanying my husband to the market in a little while

A few of my favorite things.... this sweet people I call my family
Teacups

I am wearing.... a purple floral dress

I am creating.... a infinity scarf but it's in the living room and I'm too lazy to go snap a picture of my progress.

I'm reading... Just Open the Door by Jen Schmidt

I'm listening to...the wind chimes because it's so windy outside

I am hoping ....for rain so the Stage 2 fire restrictions can be lifted

I am learning ...to try and tame my tongue and not say unkind things to people who spam my friend's blog

In the kitchen.... will be  crockpot breakfast casserole

In my garden.... I'm hoping to see seedlings from my green beans and hopefully some tomato blossoms from my tomato plant

Post Script
These are my two favorite places for tea and tea related items

Book Review: CSB Study Bible for Women Plus Prayer Request

Before I bore you all with another book review please pray for the families in Santa Fe, Texas who lost loved ones in yet another school shooting.
______________________________________________________________________________
This week I'm reviewing the CSB Study Bible for Women. First of all I'm always suspicious Christian material geared towards women because there are so many false teachers out there. I almost didn't request it but I wanted to know what the editors had to say on issues such as modesty, submission etc
This Bible according to the back cover sleeve is "the most comprehensive study Bible ever prepared  for women and by women".
The Bible's editors Dorothy Kelley Patteron and Rhonda Harrington Kelley did a great job in my opinion putting this Bible together.  Some of the features of this Bible are :
Extensive commentary notes
Word Studies
Character profiles
Biblical Womanhood articles

These are just a few features this study Bible has. One thing I noticed right away was the pages were very pretty. They have a very feminine look and I really liked that. The Bible Lifeway sent is a hardcover which is okay but I  personally prefer a leather cover. The Bible translation is the Christian Standard Bible which I mentioned in the Worldview Study Bible is a new translation. As far as any hint of feminist views I didn't see any.  I actually wanted to go through it with a finetooth comb but I knew that would take way too long. So my final thoughts are this is a great study Bible for women. There didn't appear to be any references to false women teachers of today in any of the Biblical Womahood articles.
The study notes are amazing  One thing I would have done differently though is put the features of the Bible in the beginning instead of the back. I found this to be rather odd as though the features were an afterthought.

I would ask that you please bear with me with my book reviews. I'm still getting the hang of doing this.
I received a copy of this Bible from Lifeway in exchange for my reviews.

Medical Updates

So we finally got the results back from Tim's  MRI. Their didn't appear to be anything that looks like cancer but the scan did show there was indeed scarring. Tim's follow-up appointment is on June 5th so please if you don't mind, marking that on your calendar to pray. We are praying the scarring isn't serious.
I want to thank you all for praying. I've felt rather silly worrying over this.

Our daughter's ear infection hasn't gotten much better so we are seeing her primary care provider tomorrow. Please pray for her too.

Teacups and Friendships

My daughters and I had the pleasure of participating in  Teacup and Mug Exchange hosted by Stephanie at The Enchanting Rose blog. I really enjoyed making and picking out items for my tea lady. I was privileged to have Elisabeth at Absolutely Elisabeth blog as my send to tea friend. She has a great blog you should check out.

I was blessed with a beautiful tea package by Debbie. Debbie doesn't have a blog but her daughter Esther has a delightful blog called Dolly Creates.
I must say I felt quite spoiled when I opened my box of goodies.  And pink! Oh how I love pink! The pink apron is so pretty! Oh and the Chick tract. I was so glad to know they were still around. I remember them from my teens.
The teacup is so delicate and pretty!
I love everything I received.  Thank you again Debbie!

Our .Family Photo From Easter

My daughter finally sent the picture that was taken after church on Easter Sunday. My hubby and three daughters.

Greetings!

I trust you all had a sweet Mother's  Day! I actually slept alot. We had to take our 21 year old daughter to the ER Saturday night for severe ear pain. Turns out the poor girl has an ear infection.
We didn't get out of their until 2:30am and got home by 3:00. Unfortunately I it took awhile for me to get to sleep and when it was time to get up I just couldn't keep my eyes open.

So I missed Mother's Day at church but it was so nice to get some sleep.  We decided to have Dollar Tree frozen meals for dinner including eclairs from Dollar Tree. So all in all I had a very nice Mother's  Day.

Take you all!

Oops! Forgot to Mention the Other Publisher

I forgot to mention the other Christian book publisher I use. The other one is B&H/Lifeway  B&H has a list each month of books available to review. The list is short but you don't have to earn points. Just request a book to review. Again these are free including shipping and the books are yours to keep. Though Tyndale as mentioned in the previous post has a bigger selection I like the fact that B&H doesn't require earning points to request a book.

How to Become of Book Reviewer

If you are wondering how to become a book reviewer and receive Christian free books here is the link My Reader Rewards Club. This Tyndale Publishers.
You earn points to use for choosing a book based on the number of points you have. All books free including free shipping and are yours to keep forever. You are welcome to pass books on to friends but they ask that you do not sell the books you receive.
If you have any questions let me know.

Book Review:Worldview Study Bible

I really wasn't sure how I would review a Bible, especially a study Bible but I thought I would give this one a shot.
This is  brand new Bible and hasn't been released yet so I feel fortunate to review it before it is released before to the public. It uses the Christian Standard Bible translation which is a new one that came out last year. Now I must say I'm a King James reader. Over the years I've been a Christian I've had KJV, NKJV and NIV but I just really like the KJV.

Okay on to my review. This Bible has many great features. Each book begins with a introduction, circumstances of writing which includes the author, background of the book, it's contribution to the Bible and the book's structure. There is a timeline for each book of the Bible. The beginning of each book also has a section called Christian Worldview Elements that has headings of Teachings About God, Teachings About Humanity and Teachings About Salvation.
There are the usual notes found in the bottom that most study Bibles have with center column references.  Another thing about this Bible is it has articles throughout about various topics regarding issues today such as same sex marriage, abortion, atheism, Christians and suffering, etc.  The descriptions says the articles are written by notable Christian scholars but honestly I don't know any of them.
I like that this Bible has two ribbon markers. One for the Old Testament and one for the New Testament.

As mentioned above Bible uses the Christian Standard Bible(CSB). According the  description on the box it "stays as literal to the Bible's original meaning without sacrificing clarity, making it easier to engage with Scripture's life-transforming message and to share it with others."

Because I'm accustomed to the KJV it was hard to get past the CSB wording of some passages which seems to almost change the meaning.  For example in  Matthew 8:7 regarding Jesus encounter with the centurion who ask if Jesus would come heal his servant. In the KJV it reads " And Jesus saith unto him" I will come and heal him." In the  CSB it reads " He said to him, "Am I to come and heal him?" Interesting though the footnotes in the CSB says or " I will come and heal him".  So little things like that I find confusing.

So anyway it appears to be a very good study Bible.  I think I will use it for my studies in addition to my KJV. The articles ( and there are plenty) could probably be left out or perhaps put in the back of the Bible. I believe the articles are there to encourage Christians to have a Christian Worldview of issues that affect our lives today.
The Bible they sent  me has this beautiful navy LeatherTouch as they call it cover. I've always loved the feel of leather on Bibles.

I was sent this Bible from the publishers in exchange for my honest review.

Book Review:ColorFULL-Celebrating the Colors God Gave Us

I wasn't sure I wanted to review a children's book since my girls are no longer children but when I saw the cover and description I knew I wanted to read and review it.
This brand new book by Dorena Williamson is about Imani and Kayla who are best friends who are learning to celebrate their different skin colors.
Dorena not only teaches children about different skin colors but she also teaches children colors in general. She says that instead of being colorblind we can be colorFULL instead. She reminds the children that God made many colors in our world and we should celebrate them all.
There is a Parent Connection at tne end with the verse from Psalm 139: 14 (CSB) I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well.
I highly recommend this book!
I recieved this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Trusting and Waiting Can Be Hard

When we moved into our home in October of 2016 the previous owners had left  this lovely scripture wall hanging from Isaiah 40:31 on the kitchen wall.

I've been feeling a little anxious lately with not hearing from the doctor regarding Tim's  MRI. Tim doesn't seem to concerned about it.
This morning while reading an article in Keepers at Home magazine the author wrote about her devotion time. She shared how she allowed her Bible to fall open( she says she never does this) and she just began to randomly read some verses from Psalm 119. She shared how the scriptures  was what she needed to read that day.
I have to admit I was having a difficult time concentrating so I closed the magazine. I noticed my Bible was still on the table from devotions this morning and picked it up. I decided I would allow my Bible to just fall to a page to see what would happen. Of course I felt rather stupid doing this but I figure why not? It opened to Isaiah 40:31: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not be faint.

I've feeling rather weary not just about Tim but just feeling anxious and maybe lack of trust that God will meet all our needs. I really need God to give me strength and to allow me to take baby steps towards fully trusting Him.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

                                                For Today May 6tb 2018

Looking Outside... or in my case going outside it's 91°F and partly cloudy

I am thinking .... about what I'm making for dinner tonight

I am thankful... for the rain we got last week. Maybe we will get more soon.

One of my favorite things.... okay this is weird but I love doing laundry. I don't usually do laundry on Sunday but my daughter spilled sauce on her shirt.

I am wearing... lavender dress with blue, white and lavender daisies.

I am creating... an infinity scarf with Yarn Bee cake yarn from Hobby Lobby

I am reading ... Sunlight Through Dusty Windows (The Dorcas Smucker Reader) by Dorcas Smucker. This is not one of the books I'm reviewing.

I am hoping... that we will get more rain next week even though there is none in the forecast.

I am learning.... that  often too late  that it truly is okay to say no to things that in the long run will be a very bad idea. I don't  want end up being the party pooper which is why I hate saying no.  I really need to shed my " chicken feathers"🐔

In the kitchen... there is chicken baking in the oven

Post Script.... I was interrupted many times while trying to write this post. Dinner is over now and the weather had cooled down to 78°

Kitty Cat

I thought I would change themes for this month. Blogger has this theme if a cat on a quilt. It reminded me of our cat Kirstie and we have a similar quilt so I took a few pictures of her.

Our country and the President
Family and friends, especially those who are unsaved
Your pastor and church leaders
Your church congregation
Your neighbors
I'm sure there are others I'm  missing but just make sure you take sometime to pray today.

May Day and Other Things

I hope you all had a lovely May Day! I remember growing up we made May Day hats from paper plates and tissue paper. I also have a vague memory of all the classes dancing around a maypole. I just looked up the tradition of dancing around the maypole. Hmmm..... It's ...., well i interesting.

Anyway I ordered a couple of more books to review. I'm undecided about whether I enjoy book reviews. I love free books which is why I decided to join a couple of review programs. I think my main issue is I don't want to hurt an author's feelings. I've shared in that past that I'm a chicken. I'm also wishy washy. I'm probably more wishy washy than Charlie Brown!
I believe I was being fair in my review of "Why I Stayed" and "In Bloom" even though it was my first time reviewing a book.

Have you ever tried batch cooking where you basically cook batches of  an ingredient example seasoned ground beef, put in ziplocks and freeze them? I want to try that again.  Tajuana over at My Life 0utside the Box has some great tutorials and recipes for batch cooking. I hope you visit sometime!
Well that's my short post.  I'll be posting a Daybook soon and I when I post  book reviews they will  be on a Fridays.
