Continuing From Yesterday

We also need to pray with and for our children. There is nothing like the power of prayer. It's good for our children to see us praying because it encourages them to do the same.My mother prayed for us when we were little and it is because of those prayers I am where I am today.

Have you ever heard little ones pray? Oh their prayers are so sweet! It encourages us parents to watch our children's prayer life grow.

Oh the Joy of Harvest and More

Yesterday Kaitlyn and I harvested some of our mini pumpkins and we are so excited. This is our first year doing pumpkins and we have many other plants to harvest such as peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes.
We are grateful for the harvest of our first year of gardening. God is good.

I wish it were time for our orange tree but it won't produce fruit until next year. We are definitely excited about that! Our family loves oranges and I can see smoothies in our future!

Lately in our neighborhood I've seen an increased numbers of skateboarders and bicycles. It would appear that with the high cost of gas many people are using alternate modes of transportation. Many of these boarders are older dads in their late thirties and early forties.

I honestly don't blame these people. If it were possible for us, we would definitely use bikes or skateboards to get around. It would look rather funny though for a family of skateboarders to show up for church on Sunday mornings. LOL
Our pastor and his family live just a few blocks from church so they cut down on their gas usage by walking to church except when the weather is bad.

Awhile back I posted about my faith being tested about an issue that I and a family member share.
She assured me that we were correct about what we believe because the Bible confirms it.

My concern was about children and their salvation. I do not believe that a young child who dies is going to hell because he or she didn't accept Christ into their heart as their Lord and Savior before they passed away. We as Christian parents however are to instruct our children about the Lord and what He did on the cross. We need to be godly examples to them.

To be continued...

I Like to Think

Okay I was sitting in church yesterday morning. We were visiting our friends and we went to their church. There church is Conservative Mennonite so I was looking at all the various coverings the ladies were wearing. Mostly I saw white hanging veils and there was one blue hanging veil. I thought of the book "An Ornament of a Spirit" by Cory Anderson which I will be borrowing from one of my blog followers and I saw absolutely nothing wrong with these coverings.

One might even argue that kapp coverings are wrong which I don't believe is true not one bit. I hope by reading Cory's book I hope to understand why he has a problem with churches switching to hanging veils.

More Ramblings from Me

My daughter is watching a movie called "The Conspirator' which is based on the true story of Mary Surratt who was accused of helping to plot the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. She was found guilty and was hung though she maintained she was innocent. She was the first woman to be executed by the U.S. federal government.
Today there is a man in Georgia on death row Troy Davis who is set to be executed tonight unless he gets a stay of execution. He says he innocent of killing a police officer in 1989 and so do many of his supporters say he is innocent.
He has supporters from all over the globe including the Pope, former President Jimmy Carter and a former FBI director to name a few. So what is the point of my post today?

I don't know if Troy Davis is guilty or if Mary Surrat was guilty. Only they and God knows what really happened. I often wonder how many prisoners over the years have been put to death who were actually innocent?
What does Jesus mean when he tells us not to kill? If someone killed one of my loved ones, would I want the wrong person executed? Would I want the right person executed? Would Jesus want him executed?
Just some thoughts I was having and I just read that the State Supreme court has denied Troy's request for a stay so he will be executed tonight.
May God have mercy on his soul and that of the executioners souls for that matter.

Faith Being Challenged

My faith is being challenged these days. I'm wondering about some issues and it's rather hard to know what is right. We will be visiting our Mennonite friends soon and I have many questions for them regarding a particular subject I won't go into right now.  Pray that God will speak directly through them to my husband and me and my questions will be answered.

I Stand Amazed at His Presence

I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how He could love me,
A sinner, condemned, unclean.
Refrain
O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
O how marvelous! O how wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!
For me it was in the garden
He prayed: Not My will, but Thine.
He had no tears for His own griefs,
But sweat drops of blood for mine.
Refrain
In pity angels beheld Him,
And came from the world of light
To comfort Him in the sorrows
He bore for my soul that night.
Refrain
He took my sins and my sorrows,
He made them His very own;
He bore the burden to Calvary,
And suffered and died alone.
Refrain
When with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see,
’Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of His love for me.
Refrain

Random Thoughts

I was listening to a CD message today called Ornament of a Spirit-Why Covering Styles Change. By covering I'm referring to women's headcoverings.(See 1 Cor. 11:1-15) The speaker Cory Anderson has a book by the same title and in it he is addressing mainly the Conservative Anabaptists and speaking about how they have changed  the coverings over time in some of their churches. Currently as far as churches that practice the covering there are only a few such as the Coservative Anabaptists(Mennonite, Hutterite,Amish etc) Apostolic Christian, German Baptists and a few others.

Anyway, getting back to Cory's book in it he addresses how many of the Conservative Anabaptist churches have changes in their covering styles. I guess many of these churches use the kapp style coverings but some churches are either allowing smaller coverings or the cloth veil.

Now I haven't read this book yet so I'm really not sure what the big deal is about. I guess the kapp has always been identified with the Conservative Anabaptists and perhaps the veil is confusing to people?
I don't know. I plan to order the book and after I read it for myself, I will post my thoughts about it.

We visit friends once in awhile who are Mennonite and the ladies wear a hanging veil like the one I wear. By the way, I'm not Conservative Anabaptist but the Lord convicted me on the headcovering issue sevral years ago and I feel it is a scripture I need to obey. It is not a Conservative Anabaptist teaching either.

We went to a Mennonite baptism and there were families from out of CA visiting  for the ceremony and the  those ladies wore kapps. They didn't seem bothered by the veils and the veiled ladies didn't seem bothered by the kapps.

Personally, I don't think it matters whether a woman wear a kapp or a hanging veil. If she wants to cover her head according to scripture, then it really doesn't matter. Of course if she is part of a church that has a preferred covering, then she should go with that church's standard.

Switching gears, I can't believe fall is almost here! Our pumpkins are all mostly in and more or coming. We are growing miniature pumpkins but we have so many that  we will need to give some away.
I need to put up some cranberry sauce for all the holidays that are just around the corner. There is just something about homemade cranberry sauce that you just don't get in a can. (Sorry Ocean Spray!)

Well that's my rambling for today!
