Merry Christmas

I hope you all had a great Christmas. It was quiet over at our house. Tim and I have been fighting colds so we missed Christmas Eve service last night. Today we feel somewhat better so we were able to enjoy the day.

My daughters got me a new mp3 player that I can do videos so I plan to figure out how to work since I'm tech challenged! Anyway, I  will just go ahead and use YouTube to do my videos.
 More later...

Another Long Delay Between Posts

I'm sorry for long delay. First thing I want to address is the YouTube video. Right now I'm a little dismayed with them because of their refusal to take down sexually explicit videos. Perhaps their idea of offensive videos is different from mine. Case in point is there is a video on the home page of a completely naked man with a metal tape measure and I need say more. Though nothing is seen because you just see his full profile but it's extremely obvious what message he is trying to get across.

I have told my girls not to sign on to the YouTube homepage but to sign on from like their Gmail that way they will be at their own page and the video won't be there.
I wonder what this world is coming to!
Then there is the new thing  I now call  Greedy Thursday in which stores open on Thanksgiving Day, some as early as 6:00AM in order to outsell the competition. Never mind the employees want to be with their families for the holiday. It just so sad the way society has become.  Greedy and godless!

Technical Difficulties

Well I'm hammering having some troubles trying to make a video. First I kept stumbling over my words then I would forget what I want to say. I finally got it all together and discovered my voice didn't come through on playback. I don't know what's up with my web cam. I'll keep on trying until I can get it right.

Long Delay!

Okay I realize it's been a few weeks since I last posted. I've spoken to hubby and he given his blessing to do YouTube videos. I'm thinking my topics will include things like motherhood, being a godly wife, modesty etc. Tim and I agreed that probably every topic in the world has been on YouTube but I think it is always nice to have fresh ideas.
So I will try to post a intro video sometime next week.

Been Thinking

 I've been thinking about doing a YouTube video. I've been watching the radically4jesus channel this past week and Eleanor has some really great videos. She is a great encouragement to me. As a result I was inspired by what she talks about in areas of modesty, Christian wives submitting to their husbands, sewing and other topics pertaining to Christian women. As a result I would like to try my hand in video making. I saw that I can moderate comments to keep spam and rude comments out.

I have some ideas about what I would like to discuss but I really need to pray and seek the Lord and my husband's counsel on this. If I decide to do a video or a series of videos I will post information. I have a channel but no videos.

A Disclaimer

It has come to the attention of ladies who have visited The Headcovering Movement website and have been discouraged because of their stance on when to cover. They believe that women are to cover for public worship only but they don't hold it against anyone who covers all the time. I cover all the time because I pray a lot. Also I really would like my hair to be for my husband to see only but that is my personal conviction. I think a lady needs to seek the Lord's guidance on this issue and her husband's if she is married.
Also it should be noted that I don't believe the website is encouraging division in the church if a sister is attending a church where covering is not practiced. They really want to encourage ladies who want to cover or are currently covering.
There is alot of good information but I would just chew the meat and get rid of the bones.

Where is Your Baby??

That's a strange question I know.  Unfortunately every summer there is a sad story about a young child left in a hot car because either the parent forgot or they leave them in the car thinking they are safer there. By the time the child is discovered it's too late. I hope those of you with young ones reading this know where your child is.

Some stores will put up signs that read " Did your forget something?" And it will say how high temps can reach in hot cars and to NEVER leave your child in a hot car.
Okay that is my public service announcement for July 8th 2013.

Forgot to Add

I wanted to add to the sentence about The Headcovering Movement website that it tells us why the covering is for today.

A Few of My Favorite Sites

Some of my favorite sites are A Christian Home, Gospel to Haiti andShephered Hill Homestead.  There is a new website that has started in the past few weeks is The Headcovering Movement. I have enjoyed this site because there is so much information on this neglected practice.

A Christian Home has lots of articles on being a Godly wife and mother. Gospel to Haiti is new I'm thinking about two years in the making. My friend Rhoda Esbach is a nurse there. When I first met Rhoda two years ago I thought she was a teenager/ Turns out she is thirty something! When you click on the personnel link and scroll down to the medical staff you will see what I mean.
Anyway, I just wanted to post a few of my favorite things.

Wifely Submission

Okay I've been wanting to post about this but I just had the time so here I am. I just recently started reading The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omaritian.  Something she says in her book had a profound affect on me. She says " Submission is something you give from your heart, not something demanded of you". Now I want to make it clear my husband never has and does not demand I be submissive to him. He is very gentle and kind.
Anyway, Stormie goes on to say that our attitude needs to be " Whatever you want Lord. Show me and I'll do it'. I confess  my attitude has not always been that way. Actually I have times when I don't want to submit a wend I want to do things my way.
We need to submit to our husbands with a joyful heart and not pout when we don't get our way.  There was this time a few years ago that I wanted to go to the Above Rubies Family camp but circumstances was preventing us from going so my Tim had made the decision that we would not go that year. I was not happy about this at all. I really wanted us to go and I knew we could get a full scholarship.   So I let Tim know about this and told him we can go. This didn't make him happy because he felt I wasn't listening( which I wasn't) and he was feeling that I wasn't allowing him to make decisions for our family( which I wasn't) Oh what a bitter pill that was to swallow! I'm sure the Lord wasn't happy about it either. I ended up apologizing to Tim and asking for his forgiveness.

I share this story because we wives really need to allow our husbands to lead and submit to his decisions. We might not always agree but we need  to allow God to change our husband's mind if that is His will.

Taming the Tongue, Martha vs. Mary and Other Biblical Lessons I Learned

This past Saturday was our oldest daughter's high school graduation party.  It was a very joyous occassion but I had a bit of a time relaxing because I wanted to make sure there was plenty of food for everyone. In other words like Martha in the Bible who was busy in the kitchen and didn't take much time to visit with Jesus like her sister Mary, I was constantly in and out of the kitchen. Finally one of our guests said to sit and relax and enjoy the party.  Now I also need to confess I had a hard time holding my tongue in the weeks leading up to the party. I did manage to keep quiet but the the thing is my vision for the party was much different from my daughter and husband.  I was very much afraid of saying "I told you so!" and you know for us Christian wives to say that to our husband's is not submission. The Lord was able to help me to hold my tongue.  None of this is an excuse for being Martha.  My husband had encouraged me to find my old issues of Keepers at Home magazine to find articles on hospitality which I never did because I just didn't have time. I think another part of me was being prideful because our yard is full of tall weeds and we just didn't have a chance to get rid of them. They were just too overwhelming so I was extremely embarrassed by them.

That being said Miranda's party was a blast and it was so nice to connect with old and new friends. Now you may be asking would I do this again? Well not the negative stuff of course but doing another get together. Hopefully the weeds will be gone by then.

I have more to write about submission but I will post that another time.

Eathquakes!

There;s nothing that rattles my nervous more than an easrthquake. They are unpredictable and therefore very scary when all of a sudden you feel and hear your house shake.
That's what happened a little after 7:30 this morning. I was getting ready to wash my hands when the shaking started. It just seemed so angry! It registered about a 4.8 but too me it felt stronger.
By the way I just realized today June 10th I posted this before it was done.  The quake was on May 29th. That's how nervous I was that day.

This World!

Do you as Christians ever feel like you don't belong in this world? I know that we are in this world but the world's ideas and values just don't line up with Biblical values. We hear about children murdering their siblings or their parents. Parents murdering their children, spouses cheating on each other and being hailed as heroes for it. States are legalizing gay marriage, wars are going, threats of war, etc. I feel like we are in the midst of "birth pains" leading to Christ returning.

Pray for the Man

 Dzhokhar Tsarnaev needs Christ and he needs prayer. I don't know what kind of upbringing he and his brother had but something went horribly wrong as they grew older.  Now as a result of their poor choices a total of five people are dead. Number five is Dzhokhar's older brother.  If I lost a family member in the bombing could I really follow Christ example and love these two men? Could I truly forgive him? In human terms I could not be with God's help I could. Our wall picture of Dirk Willems rescuing his enemy from the freezing pond keeps running through my mind. Love your enemy. Bless those who curse you.
Only God can give us the ability to do that. Pray for Dzhokhar.

He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/l/i/f/liftyour.htm

Lift your glad voices in triumph on high,

For Jesus hath risen, and man cannot die;

Vain were the terrors that gathered around Him,

And short the dominion of death and the grave;

He burst from the fetters of darkness that bound Him,

Resplendent in glory to live and to save!

Loud was the chorus of angels on high,

The Savior hath risen, and man shall not die.

Glory to God, in full anthems of joy;

The being He gave us death cannot destroy:

Sad were the life we must part with tomorrow,

If tears were our birthright, and death were our end;

But Jesus hath cheered the dark valley of sorrow,

And bade us, immortal, to Heaven ascend:

Lift then your voices in triumph on high,

For Jesus hath risen, and man shall not die.

````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/h/e/a/he_arose.htm   O heart, be glad and gay, a blessèd hope we know;
Through clouds of darkness drear the sunshine bright doth flow;
The hand once pierced for me has gained a victory,
My blessèd Savior rose today.
Refrain
The Christ arose today, the Lord divine,
The tomb with glory-light doth shine;
Lift up your hearts and sing to Christ, the victor king,
The blessèd One who lives for aye.
Earth robed in fairest green blooms forth the Lord to greet;
The lilies pure and white bend low to touch His feet;
A song of gladness pours from morn’s unfolding doors,
The blessèd Savior rose today.
Refrain
Oh, shout, ye starry choirs, let hallelujahs ring;
He lives to die no more, our prophet, priest and king;
Enthroned in glory bright, to Heav’n’s eternal light,
The blessèd Savior rose today.
Refrain
Man of Sorrows
http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/h/a/l/halwasav.htm
Man of Sorrows! what a name
For the Son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood;
Sealed my pardon with His blood.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Guilty, vile, and helpless we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
“Full atonement!” can it be?
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Lifted up was He to die;
“It is finished!” was His cry;
Now in Heav’n exalted high.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
When He comes, our glorious king,
All His ransomed home to bring,
Then anew His song we’ll sing:
Hallelujah! What a Savior
Ramblings
So the US Supreme Court is hearing a couple of gay marriage cases one of which is Prop 8 a voter approved ban on gay marriage. I have been praying about this for some time. The way I see it no matter which way the courts go God knows what He is doing. Even if Prop 8 stands, it is not going to to change homosexual behavior. What we need to be doing is praying that they find the Lord because to me that is more important than whether gay marriage is legal or not. The Bible says things like this, wars and rumors of war are going to happen in the last days.
With the situations happening around the world with Syria, North Korea and other countries none of this surprises me.
Good Friday and Resurrection Suinday are coming up. I think this is a good week for Christians to be praying.
Out of the Mouths of Babes
 I help lead the Cubbies group of AWANA at our church and talking to them about Jesus is such a joy.  The  children are ages 3 and 4 and oh so very precious. Recently we did a lesson about Jesus going to town to town teaching the people. Well I asked the children what they would do if Jesus came to our town. They gave some of the sweetest answers. One child said she would invite Him to dinner. Another child said he would say hi but my personal favorite was one little girl said she would cry and I asked her why. She said they wouldn't be sad tears but happy tears! Can you believe that? If I could only have that kind of faith.
Love Your Enemy- Bless Those Who Curse You
These is a drawing of a painting we have hanging in our living room.  In 1569 Dirk Willems had escaped jail and was being chased by a theif cathcher. Dirk had ran across a frozen pond and was safe but the theif chaser fell through the ice. Dirk could have escaped but he ran back to rescue this man. Unfortunately Dirk was arrested and was burned at the stake.
A Whole Month?
I had no idea I haven't posted in a month! We had the flu recently which was pretty bad. That stuff is just nasty! You feel like you are coughing up your lung, and you feel like you could fry an egg on your forehead because the fever is so high!
Well enough about that. I have this tape from The Overholt Family called Anabaptists-Martyr Hymns. These hymns were written by Anabaptists who were either in prison or in prison waiting to be put to death. These hymns can be found in a special section in The Christian Hymnary dedicated to these faithful martyrs. Their stories can also be find in The Martyrs Mirror. People like Michael Sattler, Georg Wagner and Felix Manz just to name a few.  The hymns reflect their willingness to die for the faith. Many of these sang on the way to their place of execution.
When I read Martyrs Mirror I can't help but feel like those responsible for putting these Christians to death must somehow become desensitized to human suffering. The early Christians died terrible deaths such as burning at the stake, crucifixion, buried alive or even put in an arena and and hungry lions were brought to kill the prisoners.
And even today Christians in foreign countries are in jail and possiblly waiting death for their faith in Jesus Christ. Would we being willing to die for our faith? Honestly, would we?
It's Just Crazy!
 It just boggles my mind how people think that sin is something to be proud of. To be "celebrated". This is especially true when it comes to sexual sin. As a matter of fact Hollywood seems to think it is the "in" thing to do and all the "cool" people do it. Even older celebrities are involved and one has to shake their head and ask "Really? Are you a little old for this nonsense?"  But all sexual sin is accepted and even embraced.
The 40th anniversary of Roe v Wade has come and gone.  I can't even imagine how many babies have died from abortion because there is this sick idea that the developing child is just "fetal tissue".
I lost two babies due to miscarriage and can't no one convince me those babies were just tissue! I felt the little flutterings of their movements letting me know they were there before the Lord took them home to Him.
It's just sad the way the world is today. So very sad.
Another Awesome Book!
I finished Seventeen Ounce Miracle and what a wonderful testimony this book is! I will be getting Joey's Story soon which is another testimony in book form. I guess you can tell I enjoy nonfiction Christian books!
Reading these types of books minister to me in big ways. I'm reading Vera's Journey again because as with the previous books I read, I'm encouraged with the way God moved in the lives of each of these people. I'm also in awe as to how God  worked things for His glory in each of these books through heartache and heartwarming events that each one had to endure.
I highly recommend them regardless of what Christian denomination you identify with.
Two Books I Have Read
Last week I read two books that just totally inspired me. They are "Bring the Ransom Alone" by Verda Glick. She tells about her husband Eli who with three young girls who were kidnapped in 1992 in El Salvador. It's a story of faith and God's forgiveness.
The other book is "Awaiting the Dawn" by Dorcas Hoover. It's about  John and Marie Troyer and John's martyrdom in the hands of guerillas in 1981.  It's a wonderful story of God taking what met to be evil and turning it to His glory.
I'm starting another book that just arrived today called Seventeen- Ounce Miracle by  Rachel Lofgren. It's the story of how God took  Galen and Esther Lengacher through a journey of faith  and trust when Esther delievers their tiny daughter Angelika at 22 weeks gestation.
2013 and Goals
I can't believe it's another year already! It seems like it was just yesterday I was writing my 2012 goals.
So here are at least ten goals that Lord willing, I will be able to accomplish for 2013.
  1. pray more
  2. read bible in a year in addition to my regular devotion time
  3. exercise regularly
  4. lose about 25 pounds
  5. share gospel more
  6. brush up my sewing skills
  7. learn at least three new crochet techniques
  8. save money for a KJV Thompson Chain reference Bible.  They are very expensive so I hope to find a used one at a thrift store
  9. get my bedroom more organized
  10. sew at least one new covering
